TALKING TO OURSELVES

I asked 16 people to test out a writing application that I made for a period of one week. The concept was simple, a collection of words are presented to you, and you have to respond to those words with a short bit of text. Once you enter text a new collection of words are presented to you. They were allowed to go on as long as they like but were asked to use the software at least once every day. Behind the scenes the software was using a blog to record all of their input and keyword extraction to generate prompts for the next user. The people using this software thought they were writing to a machine but they were actually writing to each other. Every cycle a thought was compressed and decompressed and the narrative would transform just a little. The level of cohesion also depended on how the participants were feeling that day. Sometimes people would respond thoughtfully, other times they would respond with something random.
