This is some software that I made for the Flatland: The Game project. (complete documentation of that project is forthcoming) For now I’ll just say that it’s a field sport and each player has to carry a device to help them in the game. The device uses some sensors to realize it’s orientation, this software [...]

For the last 9 months I’ve been working on an augmented reality field sport called, Flatland: The Game. We’ve been so busy building that we haven’t really had a chance to document anything. So this week I’m going to try my best to document some stuff and post it here temporarily. Some time in the [...]

Try to find the entity that is the sum of all action happening between two individuals. Interaction is the coordinated action of two individuals. Each individual depends on the other but the body of interaction depends on both individuals and can be greater than the sum of the individual’s action.
This is a rough draft of the motion graphics that will go into the Corporate Ladder instructional video.

It’s depressing to think about when you get started, that so many of the terms commonly used to talk about a work of art fall into this grey area of contextually specific meaning.
Play testing with prototype game pieces.
I saw Steven Heller lecture at D|MA UCLA today. He was talking about the power of graphic design in fascist regimes. At one point I was reminded of something Bush said when the UN refused to back his preemptive strike on Iraq.
No need for mutiplexors or serial shifting anymore now that I’m controlling things with the monster of Arduinos, the Sanguino! Weeee! Well, actually I’ll still need multiplexors some times. We spent quite some time trying to think of what kind of functionality would both benefit the interests of the Bananas!* film and also offer enough incentive value to end users in order to gain widespread adoption.
I’m building a RepRap for the Design department at UCLA. We just got the electronics kit from the RepRap Research Foundation in the mail and I’ve soldered together all of the electronics. Turns out to be quite a bit of soldering. It would be terrible to work in a sweat shop.

These are some examples I’m working with to show how formal languages may be reused to address a more general audience.
